Lens technologies are the core of every optic program, and Shimano lenses are engineered to the highest standards: ours.

POLYCARBONATE LENS

Shimano lenses feature polycarbonate substrates for superior impact resistance, reduced weight, and performance in a wide range of temperatures. Full UV-400 anti-scratch coatings insure a clear view under all conditions. All Shimano lenses feature decentered optics to provide distortion-free vision which reduces eye fatigue.

We impact test lenses to anticipate real world riding conditions to ensure that our lenses withstand and protect against small incoming obstacles, such as insects, branches, and pebbles.

HYDROPHOBIC TECHNOLOGY

Hydrophobic (HP) coatings are applied to outer and inner lens surfaces to increase water-repellency and to keep lenses from attracting dust, oil, and dirt. HP lens stay cleaner longer, and are easier to maintain.

PHOTOCHROMIC LENS

Photochromic lenses (PH) change transmission percentages when exposed to UV light. No need to stop and change lenses during changing light conditions. When the surroundings are dark, the lenses are almost clear. When bright, the lenses turn a darker hue. Shimano eyewear is designed with PH GREY 12% to 53% or PH Clear 24% to 86% UV transmittance—the optimal range for cycling.

POLARIZED LENS

Polarized lenses (PL) reduce glare and reflections from various objects, such as pavement, water, and glass. They ensure a clear view with excellent distance perception. The lenses' visible-light transmittance is set at 13%, making them ideal for riding in clear weather.

RX TECHNOLOGY

The RX-optimal clip transforms the standard S71X, EQX2, S52R, S51R, S51X, S20R into a prescription-ready sport frame. The clip attaches close to the lens for an optimized fit.
